I love doing commercial work! Its not easy work but there is just something about it, maybe it is the challenge. The excitement of always being in a different environment. The challenge of how to pull it off and produce a final produce where everyone is happy, the client, the art director, the agent and all the many people that are involved in the production.
This particular image was taken some time ago, I was still working as an assistant and given this assignment to shot. After finding an assistant who was fresh out of photography school we went to the factory to meet with the client and discuss their needs and goals for the project. This machine was huge, and stood in the middle of the factory floor surrounded by other machinery, providing us with a bit of a challenge. You'd never believe it took us 2 days to shoot this assignment. The first day was all set up. Setting up backdrops to surround the machine to remove all the distractions around it, we used every piece of studio equipment we could get our hands on. Day 2 was a full day of shooting every conceivable angle we could think of. Closeups and wide angles, shooting it while it was on and producing its finished product...It was really great fun! This is one of many shots the client used for a European marketing campaign.
